Fix & Troubleshoot: PS Now Something went wrong error in easy steps

Developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation Now offers cloud gaming services for PS2, PS3, PS4 and PS5 that can be conveniently played on your PS4 or 5 and your Windows computer! It provides a great way to save space on your hard drive. With PS Now you can stream games online with a monthly subscription fee. It has a huge library of over 800 video game titles that you can stream all day provided you have a stable internet connection, of course! When you select a game, PS Now will connect you to a remote server where your session will be hosted and your game will start streaming onto your device. When you are streaming a game, there’s no need to download it and you can save hard drive space this way.

You are probably here because you enjoy playing games on your PS Now but something actually went wrong and now you are not able to continue playing your favorite games. This is particularly annoying because if your game crashes suddenly and you see the “Something went wrong” error, you could lose all your saved game data and all those hours of gameplay could go to waste.

First, let’s try to figure out why this error happens. What could possibly be wrong?

  • There could be some temporary issues with your internet connection that are causing the “Something went wrong” error.
  • The PS Now servers are experiencing downtime due to techno glitches that are interrupting your game from streaming.
  • Your account might be facing issues.

Now that we know the possible reasons, what do we do?

Check your internet connection

A stable internet connection is inevitable if you want to play your game without any hindrance. Check your internet speed. You can run a speed test online and check if your internet speed meets the minimum requirements.

Restart your router

Every technical device needs a restart from time to time. If it’s been a while since you have turned off your router or restarted it, now would be the perfect time to do it! Turn off your router and switch it back on after a couple of minutes. Try streaming your PS Now games to see if the issue is resolved.

Check PlayStation Now server status

If the country/ area where you are located is a bit far away from the PlayStation Now server, you could be facing this issue. You can head over to the link below to check the status of the PS Now server to make sure if the problem lies there. To check PS Now server status:  https://status.playstation.com/ If the servers are up and running but you are still facing the issue, then the error could be due to some instability that occurred with your internet connection.

If there is indeed some issue with the server, you can wait until the issue is resolved and try accessing your games again.

Update your Router

If you haven’t updated to a new router in a long time, make sure you check if an upgrade is needed. Whether you use WiFi or a cabled connection, there is likely a chance for your router to mess up the connection between your computer and your Internet Service Provider (ISP).  Your router may not be capable of supporting the high-speed internet you are paying for every month. So, check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and see if your router needs to be changed or upgraded. Changing to a new router may solve your problem.

Reactivate your PS console

Activating a console links it to your account and allows you to purchase games on the PlayStation store. You can deactivate your console manually which is the most obvious way. Under any circumstances, if you can’t access your console, don’t worry! There is a way to remotely deactivate your console linked to your account.

Simply follow the below steps.

If you want to deactivate a PS5 console,

  • Go to Settings > User and Accounts > Other
  • Select Console Sharing and Offline Play > Disable.

If you want to deactivate a primary PS4 console,

  • Go to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4.
  • Select Deactivate > Yes.

If you want to deactivate a PS  console,

  • Click on your user account and go to PlayStation Network > Sign-in > Account Management.
  • Go to System Activation and highlight PS3.
  • Select the type of content you want to deactivate for your PlayStation console: Game or Video.
  • Click on Deactivate System

After you have deactivated your console, activate them again by following the above steps. Check if you are no longer facing the error.

  • Logout and Login

Try logging out of your PS Now and logging back in. This could definitely work and you may no longer face the error.

  • Use a different payment method

The “Something went wrong” error could happen when the users are trying to purchase games on the PS store or when they are paying for their subscriptions. In that case, try switching your payment methods.

  • Buy a prepaid PSN card
  • Try another payment method like PayPal
  • Add money to your PS wallet and try using the wallet to make the payment
