Fix & troubleshoot: Chromecast with Google TV (CWGTV) use another account error while using YouTube

In this post, we discuss how to fix & troubleshoot Chromecast with Google TV CWGTV use another account error while using YouTube.

Chromecast is the new Google TV software that makes watching your favorite shows and movies the easiest thing you can ever do! The Google Chromecast now has an all-new interface that is exclusively designed by Google and comes with content from top streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, and Disney Plus!

Chromecast also supports 4K viewing, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos and has a huge selection of apps you can choose from. Let’s talk about Google Chromecast’s new design remote. Its simple and minimalistic design is indeed eye-catching! The remote comes with a Google Assistant button that you can use for voice-assisted searches.

With Google Chromecast, you can dive into your favorite streaming services and start watching your favorite shows! Chromecast also allows you to cast YouTube videos on your TV where you can watch them on the big screen and enjoy them! Let’s take a quick look at how we can do that.

  • Make sure the device you are casting the YouTube video from ( mobile phone or computer) is connected to the same metro as the Chromecast
  • Now, open YouTube.com or the YouTube app
  • If you are using the web browser, you will see the Cast button on the bottom right corner of the video player
  • If you are using the app version, you can find the Cast button at the top of the Home Screen
  • Tap on the Chromecast device you want to cast to and click on Play
  • Your YouTube video will start playing on your Chromecast device.
  • If you want to stop casting, simply click on the Cast button and click on Disconnect

Recently, Chromecast users have reported that they have been facing a particular issue that throws the following error message while trying to use Youtube on Chromecast.

“Use Another Account. This account is not supported on YouTube on the TV app at this time. To continue, sign in with a different Google account“

What is this error? What is causing it?

Users are confused right now as the source of this problem is not quite clear. Some comment threads online suggest that the error could be an outcome of the December update that was rolled out to Chromecast sometime last week. Few other discussion forums have narrowed the error down to a brand account. A brand account is basically an old account that you may have had before Google took over YouTube.

Whatever the cause of the problem may be, let’s dig in a little deeper to find out the possible workarounds to fix this issue.

Repeat choosing the same account

When you are trying to use YouTube on Google Chromecast and are interrupted by this error message, here’s something you can do that will help to temporarily fix your problem.  When Chromecast is promoting you to choose a different Google account, choose the same account as before, and continue. You will probably be facing the same error again but continue to choose the same account. Repeat this step about three times. Users have reported that even though this step is a bit of a hassle, it definitely works for the time being.

Reset the App

Chromecast users have claimed that resetting the app works. Check out the steps below to do the same.

  • You can launch the YouTube App on your phone out tablet
  • Click on your profile icon at the top right corner
  • Go to Settings
  • Click on Reset app

This will remove all n your YouTube recommendations and search history but it’s worth a try if it means it will fix the issue at hand.

The above-mentioned workarounds are not permanent solutions and are only temporary fixes. Hopefully, Chromecast will acknowledge this error and fix it in the coming updates!
