The first part of Brutal Legend was a third-person action-adventure game with real-time strategic components. According to Tim Schafer, the open environment in Brutal Legend is about 40 square miles (100 km square) in size. The player controls Eddie Riggs, a roadie who is transported into a heavy metal-themed fantasy realm one day. Eddie gets three weapons for fight and transportation: “The Separator,” his Flying V guitar “Clementine” from his own world, which has the power to perform magic spells in the heavy metal universe, and “The Druid Plow,” a.k.a. “The Deuce,” a hot rod Eddie constructs.
The developers at Double Fine Productions also brought out Psychonauts. Psychonauts is a platform game that incorporates various adventure elements. Henceforth, the player controls the main character Raz in a third-person, three-dimensional view, helping Raz uncover a mystery at the Psychonauts training camp. Raz begins with basic movement abilities such as running and jumping. But as the game progresses, Razputin gains additional psychic powers such as telekinesis, levitation, invisibility, and pyrokinesis.
These skills enable the player to explore more of the camp and combat adversaries. Completing particular plot objectives, accumulating psi ranks during the game, or purchasing them with hidden arrowheads placed around the camp are ways to obtain these abilities. Gaining higher psi levels allows you to increase your abilities. This includes more devastating pyrokinesis or longer durations of invisibility. The player can attach three of these abilities to their controller or keyboard for fast usage, but all acquired abilities can be accessed at any time via a selection screen.
Brutal Legend 2
The two productions by Double Fine Productions have enthralled the fans. Henceforth they are also looking forward to the second part of Brutal Legend and Psychonauts. Answering questions from fans, the devs replied:
We’ve always said that we wanted to make sequels to both Psychonauts and Brutal Legend. We can’t make any promises but if Psychonauts is a success for us, then perhaps Brutal Legend 2 will be more possible?
While the reply might seem open-ended, but we can get to see Brutal Legend 2 rolling out on all platforms by the end of 2022 to mid-2023. This game would be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC gamers. The developers need to provide more clarity regarding compatible consoles like PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
